Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) Review
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Like most people, I was a huge fan of the original Zombieland, so it would be a sin to not finally watch this when I came across it on Stars tonight.
Double Tap is set a decade after the original movie, picking up with Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock as they are surviving and flourishing in the zombie apologies. A few twists and turns later though, the gang must track down Little Rock as she sets out on her own to meet new people her age.
My expectations going into this weren’t that high and for the most part, this movie met them. Double Tap was a sequel that we never really needed, but all things considered, I’m glad we got it. It’s enjoyable and very funny, just like the first one. My few complaints were that some characters were very forced (Zoey Duetch) and took me out of it times, as well as having a nearly identical plot as the first except this time, they’re looking for Little Rock, not Twinkies.
Regardless though, the movie is hilarious and like last time, Woody Harrelson and the rest of the big 4 kill it. It was good to see they hadn’t lost touch with these characters, even after all of these years, and the inclusion of Rosario Dawson as Reno was fantastic.
As I stated above, Ruben Fleischer makes a very similar movie to the first Zombieland, but that isn’t exactly bad. The set pieces were super fun and there were certain ones (the Great Zombie Jump anyone?) that were hilariously exciting and a nice payoff to buildups earlier in the movie.
All in all, Double Tap provided a decent, albeit unnecessary sequel to the first, introduced some great new characters to the series, and was a hilarious entry into the, often bleak, zombie category of movies.
Side note: The mid-credits scene with Bill Murray was hilariously amazing and was a neat little addition to the end of the movie.
5.5/10
