Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2020)
Borat 2 once again follows Kazakhstan reporter Borat as he must travel to America to gift his daughter to Mike Pence in the this mockumentary.
The king of controversial and outrageous comedy, Sacha Baron Cohen, is back, and right before the 2020 election in this comedic political satire. We, once again, get a hilariously outrageous main story, seeded in current hot topics surrounding Epstein, the Trumps, conspiracy theorists, and the far right. With Borat, on paper, being on their side, while obviously showing the ridiculous and dark side of the subject matter, in a move which will definitely ruffle a few feathers. And part of what makes the film so engaging and interesting, is the dangerously stupid and almost crudely hilarious situations Cohen puts himself into in this form of social experimentation. From trying to get an “abortion”, to crashing a Mike Pence CPAC speech, and living with conspiracy theorists for 5 days, it’s remarkable and shows his dedication to his craft.
Sacha Baron Cohen, as I have said, nails the role of overly offensive Borat all too well. He uses the character as a way to show the absurdity around us though, which is why his form of crude comedy has still persisted into 2020. Cohen plays him with such willful and inviting ignorance, with it no wonder that those around him typically get duped into doing and saying things they very much shouldn’t say or do (looking at you Rudy Giuliani). As for Maria Bakalova, who portrays Borat’s daughter Tutar, for her first big role, she nails it, evolving drastically as a character, from a cultural outsider and widely uncivilized kid, to maturing into a woman before our very eyes, following in her fathers footsteps as a reporter. Bakalova does a tremendous job of being the other half to Cohen’s Borat, with the two working off one another really well.
Borat 2 is outrageous, dark, and above all else unbelievable in it’s humor, with it succeeding in forcing us to examine ourselves and those around us before the 2020 election.
