Supernatural S15 (2020) Review

Supernatural S15 (2020)

There will be Spoilers ahead.

Supernatural Season 15, once again follows Sam and Dean as they look to take on God himself after he goes off the rails and brings about the end of the universe.

This was a packed season, with not only the ultimate villain, but also in it’s attempts to wrap up a show that has been going for 15 years, for the most part accomplishing that. There are stumbles along the way, and some of the logic gets thrown to the wind, but this is God we are talking about. It was nice to see Chuck get his own season, with an unfractured team Winchester this time around, whose only goal was to stop him, with very little distractions along the way. The few monster-of-the-week episodes we did get, we’re enjoyable and a lighthearted departure from the serious subject matter of the main story. The final season also gave us a slew of unexpected returns including Michael/Adam, Amara, Lilith, Meg, Ruby, Eileen, Kevin, and even Garth, who out of everyone, received the perfect hunters goodbye. It was also full of death, seeing many of our long time favorites meet their end, with Castiel, Rowena, and of course, Sam and Dean both met their end, with each getting their own proper deaths, in the only way it really could have ended for the brothers.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padelecki stayed strong throughout this season, with Ackles really showing his comedic chops but also violent side come through. Rob Benedict also gave us a great peek behind the curtain with Chuck and showed us just how good of a choice he was to play God. I think the sleeper of this season though was Jake Abel returning as Michael/Adam. He was around for a whole 2 episodes and completely stole the show, with his portrayal Michael being a stark departure from last seasons version, and his ability to portray Michael and Adam as two sides of a balanced coin was fantastic.

Supernatural’s 15th and final season reminded us just how far the show has come, developing Sam and Dean as characters that are very much capable of love and compassion for those they call family. It was a fitting end that left me teary eyed, seeing the show finally drive off into the sunset.

8/10
