The Mandalorian S2 (2020)

The Mandalorian Season Two once again follows Din Djarin and the child, as Mando searches the galaxy seeking out more of his kind in order to find a Jedi to help train the child.

This season cemented this show as one of the best on TV. We bounce around from planet to planet a lot, with Mando getting quested to do things left and right in order to get his answers, but it never feels stale, and that is primarily due to the excellent expanding and world building of this galaxy. It has become a connector show for the prequels, originals, and sequels, to an extent, in way that makes for amazing fan service, while not going too overboard and leaving Mando as a side character. He always takes center stage because this is his story, no matter who surrounds him.

And speaking of fan service, we get it tenfold—seeing the live action debuts of Bo Katan, Ahsoka Tano, and the Dark Troopers, as well as bringing back legendary Star Wars characters Boba Fett and Luke Skywalker (!!!). Getting to see the darksaber in action against Mando’s beskar staff was also a great payoff.

The cast was phenomenal, featuring Katee Sackhoff, Giancarlo Esposito, Temuera Morrison, Rosario Dawson, & of course Pedro Pascal, who takes his hardened bounty hunter to new heights this season, becoming more human and slowly moving away from his code as a child of The Watch. His sacrifices for Grogu were powerful and seeing their bond grow throughout this season was heartwarming and very natural. Getting to finally see Boba Fett as the baddest man in the galaxy, Ahsoka still searching for Thrawn, and Luke as an experienced Jedi master, was awesome.

Season 2 was focused on its goals and met them, with there not being a bad episode in the bunch. And while the season was used as a kicking off point for multiple spinoffs, keeping Mando at the forefront was important and done extremely well, even with introducing Ahsoka & Bo Katan.
Favreau and Filoni crafted a terrific followup season with heart, lots of great action, and genuinely the best Star Wars content we have had in years.

Plus, the visual of Mando now owning the darksaber is so damn cool.

RIP to the Razor Crest

10/10
