Star Wars Visions: The 9th Jedi (2021) Review
Star Wars Visions: The 9th Jedi (2021)
The 9th Jedi follows Kara, the daughter of a sabersmith, who is pursued by dark forces while on a dangerous mission to deliver lightsabers to the next generation of the Jedi Order.
What. An. Episode. Obviously there’s been multiple of these Visions stories that I would love to see play out in a full series format but none of them have felt so realized as The 9th Jedi. Aside from already seeming to have a fleshed out pre-story story, there is so much potential after such an episode that could really be a game changer for the Star Wars universe (that doesn’t revolve around being reluctant parents to a kid). The story is so clear, concise, and most of all, hopeful, taking a rather interesting perspective with the powerfully sensitive in the force, daughter of a sabersmith, Kara instead of the proposed Jedi at the start. She is such an unlikely but perfect protagonist and seeing her realize her strength and ability as a Jedi all moves so naturally. It’s honestly everything I wish the sequels ended up being, just makes too much sense on a narrative level, acting as a very Fellowship of the Ring type of kicking-off point.
On top of the fantastic story, the art and style direction is clearly top notch and so much credit goes out to Production I.G for their phenomenal work in crafting not just a peaceful atmosphere but also some absolutely kickass action, that is gorgeous on a visual level. The whole changing lightsabers colors as a sign of one’s atonement with the force was also brilliant and added another ridiculously cool element to the story, so it choose to move forward.
The 9th Jedi, created by Production I.G, is without a doubt, one of the strongest projects to come out of Visions because in addition to being an already stellar episode, it’s possibilities are endless and have so much potential to be the next great Star Wars series and everything the sequels should have been.
10/10
