Star Wars Visions: T0-B1 (2021) Review
Star Wars Visions: T0-B1 (2021)
T0-B1 follows T0-B1, a cybernetic boy, who dreams of being a Jedi but discovers a truth about his creator that could ruin their peaceful existence.
Well…it’s pretty impossible to follow up The Ninth Jedi, but this was just flat out bad. From a story perspective not much is there to carry the plot through to the end, just the odd aspiration, revelation, and indoctrination into T0-B1 becoming a “Jedi”. A lot of these shorts end in some type of lightsaber duel but this was the first where it simply just didn’t make much sense (quite frankly none of it did), as it haphazardly gives T0-B1 his creators lightsaber and with it, he is gifted some magical knowledge of the force (???). I don’t know. It did give off a very Astro Boy meets Pinocchio type of vibe to it, which was evident from the jump, just didn’t carry the heartwarming qualities it was obviously shooting for.
Aside from the story, I was also not a fan of the animation in this. It almost looked unfinished at times and aside from the brief light spectacle between T0-B1 and the Sith there at the end, much of it comes off dull and blurry (and way too Amazing World of Gumball). And that’s not saying it’s bad, just not my style I guess. On top of that, there’s some distractingly weird sound design thrown in on this one that is childish, if not a little annoying.
T0-B1, created by Science Saru, is no doubt the weakest entry so far with an under realized story and a protagonist whom is just uncharacteristically too much and yet not enough at all, leading to a short that has a hard time ever getting going.
4.2/10
