Star Wars Visions: The Village Bride (2021) Review
Star Wars Visions: The Village Bride (2021)
The Village Bride follows F, who along with her mentor Valco, land on a planet, away from prying Empire eyes. The planet has been overrun by raiders though, following the Separatist War and its up to F and Valco to protect the villagers from a horrible fate.
Taking a brief little reprieve from the horror movies for a bit to jump into the next Visions project, The Village Bride. Star Wars, when it’s not about family, has still always been about rebellion and realizing one’s destiny, whether you’re a Jedi, a lowly stormtrooper, or even a bounty hunter, there’s always the fate of more. And this episode is about discovering that destiny (or more, coming into it). A padawan before Order 66 killed her master and with him, the life she knew, F must become who she is meant to be—a protector, a guardian, a Jedi.
From a visual standpoint, not a bad episode either. I’d say (and I hate saying this, so no one crucify me) it has a very modern Pokémon style and feel to it, especially in the character designs and scenery, which isn’t a bad thing, just feels pretty standard television at this point. Though because of said comparison, any deviation, such as F’s lighting of her sword saber is a really cool bit, with the last little stand off showing just how good a lot of that can look.
The Village Bride, created by Kinema Citrus, doesn’t shoot for the stars on a story or visual level, but it’s core theme of realizing one’s destiny, after facing tragedy head on, is very nice bit of post-Order 66 storytelling for a former padawn turned Jedi.
7.5/10
