The Beatles: Get Back Part 2 (2021)
Part 2 of The Beatles Get Back sessions follows The Beatles, as they look to bring George Harrison back into the fold and make the shift from Twickenham to Apple Studios, while scouting out a location for their live performance of their new album.
Moving on to Part 2, I found it astonishing at just how different the chemistry between The Beatles differs after the move to Apple Studios at Sevile Row, as it creates a reinvigorated purpose and drive to not just work together but succeed as a group. There’s an electricity to them being back on their home court and while the drama with George’s departure was short lived, it created some much needed excitement and lead to some very interesting conversations about the band and their eventual end.
As they reunite here, it also gives us an uncut look at The Beatles when they’re at their creative best, as well as when they aren’t making music, showing off a more immature, goofy side that is reminiscent of their early dynamic (particularly liked seeing the funny parts of John). The amount of music, great music no less, that they pump out in such a seemingly short amount of time is insane and we even get a finished look at “I’ve Got a Feeling” with the great Billy Preston joining them on Piano (a move that feels almost too natural).
Like seeing Paul create “Get Back” out of thin air in Part 1, it was also incredible seeing the idea for their rooftop concert come to fruition in the midst of more labored talks, setting the ground work for one of their most famous performances ever (which I assume is coming in Part 3).
Get Back Part 2, directed by Peter Jackson, shows us a much deeper layer to The Beatles, at their creative height, getting along, and showing us just what made them the best band in the world for their time, with these sessions proving just how productive they are when all on the same page.
