The Boys S3 (2022) Review

The Boys S3 (2022)

Season 3 of The Boys follows The Boys, as Butcher becomes desperate to take out Homelander, whose power and influence is spreading like wildfire, resorting to rescuing the foul-mouthed Solider Boy from cryosleep to take him down once and for all.

With the third season of The Boys, they once again prove why this is one of the most exciting and daring shows on television today, proving sometimes, it’s best to say fuck the source material. This season, Butcher finally throws out the rules in an effort to level the playing field, as temporary Compound V is thrown into the mix, along with the world’s first super douche, Soldier Boy. And what an introduction they get, giving Butcher and Hughie powers, putting them at odds with the rest of the group for becoming the very thing they’ve been fighting against, while giving Jensen Ackles free range to be as big of a dick as humanly possible in Soldier Boy’s bid to hunt down his former team and Homelander

As for Homelander, this season is really about him and his bid for more and more power. The show not so subtlety builds him into this Trump sized persona, crazy conspiracy theorist supporters and all, and while he has been frightening in the past, he is downright terrifying this season. If there was any semblance of The Seven at the start of season 3, that is all but gone now, with Homelander single handedly killing 2 of them, Starlight and Maeve quitting, and A-Train and Deep only sticking around out of fear Homelander will kill them too.

Season 3 boasts another stellar cast, starring Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford, Jessie Usher, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Laz Alonso, Jack Quaid, Jensen Ackles, Karl Urban, and Antony Starr. Between Starr and Ackles, the show has finally hit peak villainy, with Starr proving time and time again to be one of the most intimidating villains out there, while Ackles arrives on the scene foul-mouthed, hard as nails, and ready to fuck shit up.

The Boys S3, directed by Eric Kripke, goes super meta this season, mocking our own real world bullshit, whilst crafting Soldier Boy into an unstoppable and integral part of this show on its journey to eventually put an end to Homelander, who has never been more dangerous.
